Overview This download provides scripts for creating the Northwind and pubs sample databases for use with SQL Server 2000 and MSDE 2000. The scripts have been updated to remove the guest account to improve security. The pubs installation script has been updated to include all of the data for the database, eliminating the requirement to run separate jobs to add data after creating pubs.

Although these sample databases will work with SQL Server 2005, the AdventureWorks sample database is recommended for use with SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.

System Requirements

• Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000; Windows Server 2003; Windows XP

These sample files can be used with any of the following editions of SQL Server 2000:

• SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3) or later
• SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000) SP3 or later
• SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000) Release A

Instructions

The SQL Server 2000 Sample Database Scripts are available as an installation file, SQL2000SampleDb.msi, which can be downloaded by following the instructions on this Web site.

After downloading SQL2000SampleDb.msi, extract the sample database scripts by double-clicking SQL2000SampleDb.msi. SQL2000SampleDb.msi will extract the database scripts and this readme file into this default folder:
C:/SQL Server 2000 Sample Databases
